Cindy-rella (Fairytale 1)

This is the first part of my new Fairytales series, a reworking of classic stories in the spirit of this site.

I’ve already planned 16 different takes on fables, but I wanted to start with Cinderella for a number of reasons. The whole idea for this series was born when I looked at a picture I used on this story (the 14th. for those who wanted to know). I thought every story I do on this site has more or less the spirit of Cinderella’s story, and that the time was ripe to do a direct adaptation.

This is probably the lengthiest post I’ve ever made here, and I highly doubt my other Fairytales will be this long (though sometimes I can’t help myself, so who knows). The reason is that I wanted to make a great introduction to the project and also because I had a hard time saying goodbye to this character and the girl who represents her.

By the way: the text is long and thus its small. Clik each caption open in a new tab, so that you can read it in all its HQ glory.

You can surely tell I spent a good deal of time making this, so please comment something. The blog feels very lonely lately.

  1. So sorry about not commenting before. I had a rather urgent family matter to attend to that I'd really rather keep private.
Aside from the font choice, though, this is great. Thanks so much.
By the way, is that a pre-crazy Lindsey Lohan?

    1. Sorry about the font. I wanted to give it a fairytale look and I thought it was readable, but if it's not, then I won't use it again in future stories.

And no, it's not her. Pre-crazy Lohan was beautiful, but never as much as this, at least in my opinion.

    2. Love the pics, but the font is impossible to read.

    3. Come on, that's a bit of an exaggeration. The font might require a bit of effort, but it's perfectly readable, especially if you open them on a new window as the post suggests. They're not impossible to understand, but I agree Planet shouldn't use them in future stories.

    1. Thanks. The wait was because I insisted on making it so long.

  4. Wow, that's a nice insight. Every story on the blog is indeed a Cinderella story at heart!

    Nice read and pictures.

    1. Well, Cinderella is the original story of an ordinary girl being empowered, so yes, that's basically all that I do here.

  5. This...is...AWESOME! What an awesome way of re-imagining Cinderella, for this site or any. It might not have featured that much Age Progression as one would expect from this site (most people would have presumed that it'd be Cindy doing the aging), but you actually made this more believable by not having her age change so often.

The modern take on this works really well too. I wouldn't have thought of portraying the Princes like that, but it really works. Trixie as the chauffeur was an interesting twist to keep the AP theme and the godmother's AP was great too. Having seen the latest Cinderella about a week ago really stoked me for this retelling. I am looking very forward to seeing the other fairy tales you'll be retelling.

    1. This kind of response means a lot to me.

I haven't seen the new Cinderella movie, and I hadn't made the connection until now but yes, there's a lot more classic tales about to be adapted.

Early on in this project, I decided not all of them would be AP-centric stories, so expect different takes on each story. To me, Increased Beauty (and brains as always, of course) was the logical choice for a Cinderella story. I threw in the AP as a bonus because I believe some of you would have wanted that. The Fairy's aging maybe was a bit much, but Trixie's AP made total sense to me. After all, in the original tale, Cinderella isn't the only one who transforms. There's the mice and the pumpkin, and you see how I chose to adapt that.

Anyhow, if there's something I'm quite proud of is my take on the Princes. Of course, me being me, you wouldn't have expected me to portray an actual prince. This is a modern day setting, and today's women's dreams aren't as much of a smiling bloke but rather of a position of power and respect. I think I might have one of the most forward-thinking Cinderellas there are XD

By the way, I think my very next tale will be quite AP-centric, unless I decide to release another one first.

  6. Very excited about this new idea of yours :D
Your touch is noticed throught the story, so I can't wait to see more fairytales with it.
I loved that she transformed all those times during the week, I always imagined some sort of AP Cinderella when I was younger, but definitely this version is the best. The scene where they are being pursued by the cops has to be my favorite

    Keep on the good work

    1. Thanks, I'm also excited about further adaptations.

At first I thought of making it an AP story, but I decided Cinderella was better suited as an Increased Beauty tale (though I still added a couple of APs as a bonus). There will be other stories that are purely AP, or even other genres.

Glad you enjoyed the cops thing. I had to resolve it in just a few lines.

Ps; I don't mind you e-mailing me, but can you comment on the blog too? That way others might feel more compelled to do it too XD
