You know, I'm seeing another possible interpretation of this. Perhaps this girl didn't steal her age just to enjoy the privileges of adulthood. Perhaps she really wants her parents' approval and respect but thought she was too young to possibly earn them. Though it would seem like her mother is too cold to show her any warmth, regardless of age.
